India’s spacetech funding hits $871m as Vikram-1 debuts

India’s private spacetech sector has raised US$871 million across 241 funding rounds through July 2026, according to Tracxn, an India-based private market data platform.

The report covers 285 companies.

Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 reached a 450-kilometer low Earth orbit on July 18, deploying four payloads.

The mission made India the third country after the US and China with a privately developed orbital launch capability.

The mission marked India’s first fully private orbital flight, with an orbital-class rocket developed and operated outside the state space agency.

Tracxn said funding rose from US$43 million in 2021 to a record US$200 million in 2025.

So far in 2026, the sector has raised US$113 million across 24 rounds.

The sector was opened to private companies in 2020 through IN-SPACe, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center.

In 2024, foreign direct investment reforms allowed up to 49% automatic foreign direct investment in launch vehicles and spaceports.

Skyroot has raised US$150 million, ahead of Pixxel at US$96 million.

Bengaluru led funding hubs, with US$495 million.

Vikram-1’s debut carried four payloads. A study on India’s small-satellite sector said satellite manufacturing is beginning to outpace launch availability as demand for earth observation and defense grows.
