India’s Groww reportedly gets online bond-distribution license

Groww, a Bengaluru-based wealth tech company, has received the online bond platform provider (OBPP) license from the Securities and Exchange Board of India, according to the two sources.

The license allows Groww to offer listed corporate bonds to retail investors via its online platform.

Groww, which earns most of its revenue from stockbroking, has expanded into areas such as wealth management, credit distribution, and fixed income investments.

The company has acquired several licenses, including a non-banking finance company (NBFC) license and an asset management business through the purchase of Indiabulls AMC.

With this OBPP license, Groww will compete with other platforms like Wint Wealth, Jiraaf, and Grip Invest.

Groww reported an operating revenue of 1,018 crore rupee (US$113 million) and a net profit of 471 crore rupee (US$52.4 million) for the quarter ending September 2025, and is listed on Indian stock exchanges with a market cap of 93,313 crore rupee (US$10.38 billion).

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Online bond platform provider (OBPP) volumes remain unclear; NSE share data lacks detail

  •  NSE Market Pulse materials do not break out OBPP transaction volumes or retail participation rates. This gap makes it hard to judge if this offering can add revenue for Groww or if it serves as a bet on future growth.
  •  India’s bond market is expanding 1. Without current OBPP volume data, investors cannot size the market or estimate take rates for Groww, Wint Wealth, and Jiraaf.
  • Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued 2022 rules that require OBPP registration 1. The regulator also warned against unregistered platforms 2, which signals a young market with policy still forming 3.

Regulatory technology and compliance vendors can plug into the OBPP registry

  •  As OBPP usage grows among retail investors, vendors can offer Know Your Customer (KYC) automation and suitability tools. They can add request-for-quote (RFQ) connectivity and investor education interfaces. Targets include the 731 registered debt segment brokers as of Dec 07, 2025 4 plus registered OBPPs 5.
  •  SEBI’s list of registered OBPPs 5 gives vendors a starter roster for compliance tools, exchange links, and analytics partnerships shaped for platforms under the 2022 OBPP rules 1.
