India’s GDP could gain up to $600b from AI by 2035: report

Accelerated use of AI could add US$500 billion to US$600 billion to India’s GDP by 2035, according to a new report from NITI Aayog, a government think tank.

The study, titled “AI for Viksit Bharat: The Opportunity for Accelerated Economic Growth,” estimates that global AI adoption may boost the world economy by US$17 trillion to US$26 trillion over the next decade.

The report says India’s large science and engineering workforce, expanding research and development ecosystem, and digital and technology capabilities position it to potentially capture 10–15% of global AI value.

NITI Aayog projects that AI will both create new roles and displace some existing jobs, especially in clerical, routine, and low-skill positions.
