India’s AgroStar secures $30m to invest in AI tools

AgroStar, an agritech startup based in India, has raised US$30 million in equity funding from climate-focused investor Just Climate, with participation from existing investors.

The company will use the new funding to expand its omnichannel operations, develop new products, and invest further in AI-driven advisory tools.

Founded in 2013, AgroStar operates an agri-commerce and advisory platform that connects over 10 million farmers through nearly 10,000 retail outlets and a digital app.

Just Climate said this marks its first investment in India under its global natural climate solutions strategy.

AgroStar provides real-time agronomy guidance to farmers using its AI systems and sells over 200 branded agricultural input products.

According to independent surveys cited by the company, 81% of users reported higher production, 53% saw reduced cultivation costs, and in FY25, AgroStar helped farmers save 276 billion liters of water and cut 120,000 metric tons of CO2-equivalent emissions.

Financial terms beyond the investment amount were not disclosed.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Opportunity for MRV platform providers in Indian agritech

  • Climate investors such as Just Climate often require credible MRV for farm emissions and water savings 3. AgroStar’s self-published impact numbers hint at demand for third-party MRV platforms that can quantify and certify results 3.
  • India has a Verra-registered soil carbon project, and Verra is a leading nonprofit standard setter for carbon credits 4. Boomitra, a climate-tech firm that uses satellite imagery and AI to measure soil carbon, runs the SOVIN project across 88,000+ acres with 23,015 farmers 4.
  • MRV platform operators and remote-sensing startups can partner with agritechs such as AgroStar, DeHaat, and Ninjacart 2. Verified carbon credits and water impact data can open carbon market revenue 2. That can help these platforms stand out to climate-focused limited partners (LPs) 2.
