Indian voice AI startup Maya raises $1.9m seed

Maya Research, an India-based AI startup building voice interfaces and models, raised US$1.9 million in seed funding led by South Park Commons.

South Park Commons, a US-based founder community and investment platform with a presence in Bengaluru, said it makes first investments of US$1 million to US$10 million.

Maya said its open-source voice model Maya 1 ranks sixth globally among open-weight models on Speech Arena.

On Hugging Face, Maya 1 supports English with multi-accent output and is designed for expressive speech generation, including natural-language voice design, and inline emotion tags.

Maya also said its models have been downloaded more than 440,000 times on Hugging Face. Its consumer app has recorded over 3 million downloads across India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa.

The funding comes as India’s voice AI sector attracts more capital. Bolna raised US$6.3 million in seed funding, while Gnani.ai secured US$10 million in a series B tranche.
