Indian VC firm IAN Group raises $100m for tech startups
IAN Group has completed the final close of its US$100 million Alpha Fund, which will invest in early-stage, tech-focused startups in India.
The fund has already made investments in 10 to 12 companies across sectors including AI, space, semiconductors, climate, and healthcare.
IAN Group, an investment platform based in India, said many of its portfolio companies are led by first-generation entrepreneurs and operate in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
Institutional investors in the Alpha Fund include government-backed entities such as Sidbi’s Fund of Funds for startups, the Self-Reliant India Fund, ACE Fund, Nabard, the Odisha Startup Growth Fund, and HDFC Life.
A portion of the fund’s capital will be used to support startups already in IAN Group’s portfolio.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
IAN’s $100 million close lacks fund data for real evaluation
- IAN Group closed the $100 million Alpha Fund for early-stage Indian startups. The firm says it has made more than 250 investments since 2006, yet the release omits realized exits or metrics like Distributed to Paid-In (DPI, cash actually returned to investors) 1.
- By Q4 2023, top-quartile VC funds reached median DPI of 1.5x, so without IAN’s DPI or realized exits the close is hard to read as proof of returns 12.
- In the past 2 to 3 years, tens of thousands of Indian startups shut, and many early-vintage funds cannot return capital, which fuels “zombie” funds with little liquidity 3; Alpha Fund’s institutional backing still does not confirm cash paid to past limited partners (LPs).
Co-investors and B2B vendors can target IAN’s AI and climate bets in tier-2 and tier-3 cities
- Co-investors can map Alpha Fund’s 10 to 12 holdings for follow-on rounds or partnerships 4. The slate spans AI and space, plus semiconductors, climate, and healthcare.
- Vendors selling B2B tech and enterprise tools should approach IAN startups in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. These teams often lack mature vendor ties or procurement, so sales can be easier than in metros.
- In 2025, AI took 51% of global VC deal value 1. Service providers for AI infrastructure, compliance, or go-to-market can engage IAN’s AI startups while capital is fresh.
