Indian state considers social media ban for children under 16

India’s Andhra Pradesh state is exploring the possibility of banning children under 16 from using social media, similar to Australia’s recent legislation, according to a government official.

Nara Lokesh, the state’s minister for technology and human resources, said that a strong legal framework may be necessary to restrict social media access for minors.

Experts note that enforcing such a ban could be challenging due to the internet’s infrastructure and methods to bypass restrictions.

India has introduced parental controls for minors but has not yet proposed broader restrictions.
