🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ India’s counter-trend growth attracts strategic foreign investment

India’s venture capital ecosystem is showing remarkable resilience against global downturns, making it an attractive destination for international funds like VNTR.

While global VC deal volumes declined, India saw a 40% year-on-year increase in early 2025 funding and an 11% growth in deal volume, demonstrating exceptional market strength 1.

This growth follows a strong 2024 performance, when India’s VC landscape rebounded to $13.7 billion (1.4x increase from 2023) with deal count jumping from 880 to 1,270 (45% growth) 2.

The contrast between India’s surge and global caution is notable, particularly when considering the four-year funding low of $2.7 billion experienced in certain quarters when global investors retreated 3.

Vntr’s $5 million fund aligns with the prevailing investment trend, as small and medium-sized deals (under $50 million) now account for 95% of total transactions in India’s ecosystem 2.

2️⃣ Sector specialization reflects India’s evolving innovation priorities

Vntr’s focus on fintech, healthtech, deep tech, climate tech, and SaaS directly reflects where the Indian startup ecosystem is concentrating its innovation efforts.

Tech-first sectors captured over 60% of India’s total funding in 2024, with consumer tech seeing a dramatic 2.3x increase to $5.4 billion, revealing clear market momentum 2.

The 78% surge in funding for deep tech and AI ventures (totaling $1.6 billion in 2024) signals a maturing market ready for more complex technological innovations 4.
