Indian spacetech startup Xovian raises $2.5m pre-seed funding
Xovian Aerospace, a spacetech startup based in Bengaluru, has raised US$2.5 million in pre-seed funding led by Piper Serica and Turbostart, with participation from Inflection Point Ventures and Eaglewings Ventures.
The company plans to use the funds to launch its first spacecraft, build out capacity, and hire more engineers.
Xovian Aerospace was founded in 2019 by Ankit Bhateja and Raghav Sharma.
The startup is developing radio frequency (RF) satellite infrastructure that uses AI to process and analyze RF signals.
It expects to begin customer pilots and data trials in 2026.
The company aims to deploy nanosatellites and provide RF intelligence services to sectors including maritime, aviation, defense, disaster response, and finance.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ AI-native satellite design offers advantages over retrofitting existing systems
Xovian’s approach of building AI into their satellite infrastructure from the ground up reflects a broader industry shift toward purpose-built intelligent systems.
The AI in satellite communications market is projected to grow from $2.18 billion in 2024 to $10.73 billion by 2033, with much of this growth driven by AI enabling autonomous functions, real-time data analysis, and improved network optimization1.
Traditional satellite operators have typically added AI capabilities to existing systems, but companies like Xovian are designing their entire architecture around AI from the start.
This native approach allows for better integration between hardware sensors, data processing, and decision-making systems, potentially delivering the “six times more data value per dollar” that Xovian claims compared to conventional systems.
The timing aligns with industry trends showing AI facilitating autonomous satellite operations, reducing reliance on ground control, and enabling real-time adjustments to optimize performance2.
2️⃣ RF intelligence serves dual-use markets with strong defense heritage
Xovian’s focus on RF satellite intelligence taps into a technology area with proven long-term value in defense applications.
