Indian spacetech startup Skyroot hits unicorn status
Skyroot Aerospace, a Hyderabad-based space launch startup, said it has raised US$60 million in a round co-led by Sherpalo Ventures at a US$1.1 billion valuation, giving the company unicorn status.
Existing investors including GIC, Greenko Group founders, and Arkam Ventures also joined the round, alongside new backers including BlackRock and Playbook Partners.
Founded in 2018 by former ISRO engineers Pawan Chandana and Bharath Daka, Skyroot became the first Indian private company to launch a suborbital rocket in 2022.
The startup said the new funds will support manufacturing and development of its Vikram-2 launch vehicle ahead of the planned Vikram-1 orbital rocket launch.
