🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ India’s strategic quantum security initiatives mirror global sovereignty trends

The National Quantum Mission’s investment in QNu Labs reflects a deliberate national strategy to develop sovereign quantum capabilities, similar to approaches seen internationally.

With ₹6,003.65 crore ($800 million) allocated to the National Quantum Mission from 2023-2030, India is making a substantial commitment to securing its digital future through indigenous quantum technologies 1.

This parallels global government funding patterns, where public investment in quantum technologies has exceeded $30 billion by 2023, demonstrating how quantum security has become a national security priority worldwide 2.

The U.S. and China currently account for over 75% of all quantum computing investments, creating a competitive landscape where India’s focused investment in companies like QNu represents a strategic move to establish technological independence 2.

QNu’s position as “one of the few startups globally—and the first from India” with commercially ready quantum-safe solutions shows how the country is cultivating homegrown champions in this critical field.

2️⃣ Quantum security funding accelerates as encryption vulnerability timeline clarifies

QNu’s funding comes amid rapidly growing investment in quantum technologies, with quantum startups securing over $1.2 billion in Q1 2025 alone—a 125% increase year-over-year 3.
