Indian book publishers, along with international counterparts, have filed a copyright lawsuit against OpenAI at the Delhi High Court.

The lawsuit, led by the Federation of Indian Publishers, claims that OpenAI’s ChatGPT generates book summaries based on proprietary content from publishers like Bloomsbury, Penguin Random House, Cambridge University Press, and Pan Macmillan.

The publishers seek the removal of datasets suspected of containing copyrighted material and compensation for any potential losses.

OpenAI has not publicly commented on the case but has previously said that its systems use publicly available data under fair-use principles.

This lawsuit is part of a global wave of similar legal challenges, including one filed by news agency ANI in India.
