Bengaluru-based GalaxEye, a space technology startup developing Earth observation systems, said it has received a US patent for satellite imaging technology that aligns and synchronizes optical and microwave sensors.

The company said the patent will support expansion in India and overseas.

GalaxEye said it is the first Indian startup to receive a US patent for satellite imaging technology.

It added that the same technology has already been patented in India.

GalaxEye launched its first satellite, Mission Drishti, on May 3, 2026.

The company said the roughly 190 kg spacecraft was India’s largest privately built Earth observation satellite at the time of launch.

GalaxEye said it plans to build a 30-satellite constellation over the next five years.

In August 2026, it also acquired Bengaluru-based spacecraft engineering company StarOps to add in-house engineering capacity.

The announcement comes as the Earth observation small satellite market is projected to reach US$69 billion by 2034.

Meanwhile, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)-based systems can image in all weather and at any time of day, showing the value of combining microwave and optical data.
