Indian legal AI startup Nyai raises $1.5m seed
Nyai, a Pune-based legal tech startup that builds AI tools for India’s legal and compliance work, said on August 4 that it raised US$1.5 million in seed funding from Indian family offices, with participation from angel investors.
The company said it will use the funding to expand its AI tools for legal research, compliance, and enterprise use in India.
The startup, incorporated in March 2025, said its co-founders are Adv. Dr. Chinmay Bhosale and Vikrant Labde.
It said it serves law firms, in-house legal teams, and independent practitioners with products for research, drafting, compliance, document review, and legal operations.
Nyai said its software can work with language models already licensed by clients and that it supports on-premises deployment for regulated institutions.
The startup also said India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act can carry penalties of up to 2.5 billion rupees (US$26.2 million) per violation. Competitors in Indian legal AI include LexOps and Clauseo.
