Indian healthcare fintech firm Care.fi nets $8m series A

Care.fi, a Gurugram-based healthcare fintech, has raised US$8 million in a series A funding round, including US$5 million in equity led by July Ventures and US$3 million in debt from Trifecta and Vivriti.

The company develops AI-powered revenue cycle management systems for hospitals, supporting claims processing, documentation, coding, and collections.

Its platform is currently used across India’s Ayushman Bharat and other insurance programs.

The funds will support expansion into new Indian cities and international markets, including the US and the Middle East, as well as product development.

The company states its goal is to create a global, end-to-end healthcare revenue platform that streamlines hospital billing and improves transparency for patients.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Care.fi can ease cash flow pressure in India’s national health scheme

  • Ayushman Bharat can leave hospitals waiting on reimbursements, even after care is delivered.
  • Under the scheme, claim settlement can run from 30 days to more than 180 days, which squeezes day to day cash for providers 1.
  • In Haryana, over 600 hospitals said they would stop taking patients under the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme because payments were delayed 1.
  • Care.fi offers tech-enabled working capital and credit products. It says it secured a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) licence, an Indian regulatory approval that allows a firm to lend and offer certain financial services, within two years of inception, which lets it finance hospitals directly 2.
  • Care.fi says it has disbursed more than ₹800 crore in loans across over 100 healthcare institutions 3.

The round offers a template for industry-specific fintech

  • Care.fi pairs workflow software for hospitals with embedded financial services.
  • Its AI platform plugs into operations and gathers data on a hospital’s revenue cycle, the end-to-end process of billing, claims, and collecting payments.
  • With its NBFC licence, it can lend against those cash flows, which helps keep the software in daily use 2.
  • The same approach can fit sectors with slow payouts, including construction, logistics, and government contracting.
  • Care.fi has said it wants to become a healthcare-focused Small Finance Bank, a regulated Indian bank category designed to expand access to financial services, which would widen its role beyond lending to a broader set of banking products 4.
