Indian gov’t questions Ola’s sales, cites undelivered bikes

India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has raised concerns about Ola Electric Mobility Ltd.’s February sales data.

Ola reported 25,207 “confirmed orders,” but only 8,600 units were registered on the government portal.

The ministry asked Ola to revise its figures and respond within seven days, warning of possible penalties. It also instructed the company to report only invoiced vehicles.

In a Mar. 21 letter, Ola admitted its figures included 10,866 third-generation e-scooters and 1,395 Roadster X motorcycles, models that had not been delivered or, in the case of the motorcycles, not even launched.

These made up nearly half of Ola’s reported sales. Ola said the numbers reflected full payments received, though revenue is recognized only after registration and delivery.

The ministry has not issued further comments.
