Indian gov’t to launch new taxi service to rival Ola, Uber

The Indian government has announced the launch of a new taxi service called “Sahkar Taxi,” which aims to provide an alternative to ride-hailing platforms such as Ola and Uber.

Sahkar Taxi will offer two-wheeler taxis, auto-rickshaws, and four-wheeler taxis across the country.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah noted that the initiative’s primary goal is to enable drivers to earn directly without sharing profits with larger corporations.

The service is expected to roll out nationwide in the coming months.

The Sahkar Taxi service is inspired by similar models in states like West Bengal, which has its “Yatri Sathi” program.
