India boosts EV push with 9,800 e-buses across two cities

The ministry of heavy industries (MHI) has approved subsidies for 9,800 electric buses in Bengaluru and Hyderabad under the PM E-Drive scheme.

This includes 7,000 e-buses for Bengaluru and 2,800 for Hyderabad, covering 70% of the government’s target to support 14,028 e-buses across nine metro cities by 2026.

The initiative also includes Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Surat, and Pune.

Launched in September 2024, PM E-Drive replaced the FAME scheme to boost EV adoption in India.

The program has a two-year budget of 10,900 crore rupees (US$1.3 million), covering subsidies for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, buses, ambulances, and trucks.
