Indian IT giants to deploy over 200,000 Microsoft Copilot licenses

Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, and Wipro will each deploy more than 50,000 Microsoft Copilot licenses, with the total exceeding 200,000, under new partnerships announced by Microsoft in Bengaluru.

The four India-based IT firms will roll out Microsoft 365 Copilot across their operations to support enterprise adoption of generative and agentic AI.

This follows Microsoft’s plan to invest US$17.5 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure in India over the next four years.

The companies said the large-scale deployment aims to embed AI into core business functions such as delivery, sales, finance, HR, and customer engagement.

They are also working with Microsoft to develop industry-specific AI solutions for sectors including financial services, retail, manufacturing, and healthcare.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

What these deployments cost and signal about India’s AI pricing landscape

  • At Microsoft’s US list price of $18 per user per month for the Microsoft 365 Copilot Business plan, 200,000+ licenses would cost about $43 million a year 1. The article doesn’t say if Indian systems integrators (SIs) got volume discounts or bundled seats with existing Microsoft 365 plans. Nor is it clear if they paid the India starting price of ₹1,495.73 per user per month 2. Revenue impact remains uncertain.
  • Cognizant and Infosys may have enterprise discounts, since no terms were shared. TCS and Wipro may too. The scale of these rollouts could overstate near-term revenue for Microsoft. They still signal that Copilot is ready for large companies and could nudge wider adoption in India.

How third-party vendors can respond to growing Copilot adoption in India

  • These four SIs are rolling out Copilot across delivery and sales. Finance and HR are in scope too. Large Indian companies may follow. That creates demand for readiness assessments and change programs. Firms will want governance frameworks and return on investment (ROI) tools.
  • Third-party software firms and consultancies can focus on large companies in India. Build sales plans for this market. Map the industries these SIs serve. Confirmed sectors include financial services and retail. Manufacturing and healthcare are on the list. Track client announcements or pilot work. Offer tools that pair with Copilot, such as usage analytics dashboards or prompt libraries for Indian business use. Create integration connectors for regional enterprise resource planning (ERP) and compliance systems.
