Indian fusion startup Pranos raises $6.8m in early-stage funding
Pranos Fusion, a Bengaluru-based startup working on compact magnetic confinement fusion, said it raised US$6.8 million (63 crore rupee) in an early-stage round co-led by pi Ventures and Ankur Capital.
The company said Industrial47 also invested, alongside angel investors including Groww co-founder Lalit Keshre, the founders of Razorpay, and Bhukhanwala Industries.
Pranos said it is developing a tokamak that uses superconducting magnets to confine plasma, and that it is pursuing a compact reactor design using high-temperature superconducting magnets and software-based control systems.
The startup said the funding will go toward commissioning a tokamak with first plasma targeted for 2026, advancing its magnet and software programs, expanding the team, and building test facilities, and it added that it was founded in 2024 and is co-incubated at JNCASR and the Institute for Plasma Research.
