Indian EV maker Ather plans up to $262m raise

Ather Energy, a Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker, said its board had approved plans to raise up to 25 billion rupees (US$262 million) through a qualified institutional placement (QIP) and other equity-linked instruments, according to a regulatory filing.

The company plans to raise 15 billion rupees (US$157 million) via QIP and up to 10 billion rupees (US$105 million) through options including equity shares and foreign currency convertible bonds.

Ather, which listed on May 6, 2025, said the funds would support its balance sheet, manufacturing expansion, product development, and distribution.

Its shares closed at 1,028.7 rupees (US$11) on June 12, 2026, from an initial public offering price of 321 rupees (US$3.4).

Ather’s trailing 12-month revenue was 36.7 billion rupees (US$385 million), its net loss was 5.2 billion rupees (US$54.2 million), and cash stood at 13.8 billion rupees (US$144 million).

The planned fundraising equals about 6.3% of Ather’s 394.1 billion rupees (US$4.13 billion) market value, based on market data.

Ather’s Hosur plant can make 420,000 units a year. A planned Maharashtra facility would take total capacity to 1.42 million units.

The company held about 16.5% market share in India’s electric two-wheeler market in May 2026, ranking third behind TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto.

Ather said it expanded its retail network to 700 stores in FY26 and sold about 83,000 vehicles in the March quarter.
