Indian EV charging startup Rebolt installs chargers at RBI campus

Rebolt said it had installed more than 18 EV charging points across the Reserve Bank of India’s Bengaluru office and staff residential campuses this month.

Rebolt, a Bengaluru-based company that operates community EV charging stations, said it supplied and installed the chargers and would manage ongoing maintenance.

The chargers support two- and four-wheelers and use IoT-enabled smart devices that the company said integrated with its mobile app for locating stations, monitoring sessions, and processing payments.

Rebolt said its network included over 700 chargers across more than 230 locations, with deployments in more than 140 premium apartment complexes, and over 80 hotels and resorts in tourist destinations in South India.

The installation adds to workplace and residential charging projects by government and corporate organizations in India and supports efforts to expand EV adoption.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Rebolt is smaller than venture-backed charging networks

  • Rebolt runs more than 700 chargers, while Bengaluru-based Bolt.Earth operates 36,000 charging stations across 1,600 cities 1.
  • The gap also shows up in capital raised.
  • Rebolt took an undisclosed bridge round (a short-term funding round used to extend runway) from angel investors (individual early-stage backers) to grow its community-focused network 2.
  • Bolt.Earth raised $20 million from venture capital firms including Union Square Ventures and Prime Venture Partners to support expansion plans 3.

EV charging is becoming an amenity for buildings and destinations

  • Rebolt concentrates on office and residential campuses, leaning on “community charging” in places where EV users live and work 4.
  • Instead of chasing highway fast-charging traffic, the community approach treats charging like an amenity, similar to how hotels may frame guest services 5.
  • Property owners and building managers can earn from parking lots through several charging and payment setups, such as billing drivers, bundling charging into rent or services, or mixing free and paid sessions 5.
  • Long-dwell, dependable charging where cars already sit can make EV ownership easier in cities, especially for apartment dwellers who may struggle to install individual chargers 6.
