Indian EV bike maker Oben Electric bags $9.4m pre-series B
Oben Electric, an EV motorcycle maker based in Bengaluru, has raised 85 crore rupees (US$9.4 million) in a pre-series B funding round to support national retail expansion and product development.
The round saw participation from Indian American family offices, including Raj K Soin, Musa Dakri, and Ramesh Bhutada, as well as existing investors.
Oben Electric designs and manufactures electric motorcycles and key EV components in India.
The company said it will use the new funding to open more showrooms and service centers and invest in its product pipeline.
Oben Electric has now raised a total of 285 crore rupees (US$31.5 million) and is in talks for a series B round.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Oben needs faster store sales and better margins to hit break-even
- Oben Electric sold 2,828 units through November 2025 1. It still targets Rs 100 crore revenue in FY26 (fiscal year ending March 2026) 1, which implies 8,000 to 10,000 units at ex-showroom pricing (Rorr EZ starts at ₹99,999) 2. Each of the planned 150 outlets 1 would need to move 5 to 7 units a month, while over 85 stores averaged 3 in 2025 1.
- FY25 revenue was Rs 25 crore on lower volumes 1. The 4x plan rests on its dealer-led model, which uses a third-party dealership network rather than company-owned stores. Reaching COGS break-even by March 2026 looks tough given the capital needs of in-house lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery manufacturing while keeping dealer margins in a price-sensitive 100cc-equivalent segment (the entry-level gasoline motorcycle class) 1.
NBFCs (non-banking financial companies) can tap EV retail financing
- Expansion to 150 dealer-led outlets creates demand for point-of-sale financing, yet the company still lists only generic ‘several financial institutions’ as loan partners 3. Loans on electric two-wheelers range from 8 to 22% interest, with many lenders offering up to 100% financing 4. NBFCs and fintechs can offer tailored loans for the sub-Rs 100,000 O100 platform (Oben’s lower-cost motorcycle platform) launching in 2026 5.
- Dealer terms require exclusive service centers alongside showrooms 1. Fintechs that focus on dealer inventory financing or working capital can capture this business-to-business-to-consumer (B2B2C) channel in North India where Oben is expanding 5.
