Indian drone startup Airbound raises $37m in series A
Airbound, a Bengaluru-based aerospace startup, said on August 25 that it raised a US$37 million series A round led by Greenoaks.
The company also signed a commercial deployment agreement with the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh to expand autonomous aircraft deliveries.
DoorDash, Lachy Groom, Lightspeed, and Humba Ventures also joined the round.
Airbound said the funding will support engineering, large-scale manufacturing, and market expansion, bringing its total funding since its 2023 launch to nearly US$50 million.
Airbound said it has completed more than 1,000 autonomous flights with Narayana Health, transporting diagnostic samples between healthcare facilities.
Earlier public disclosures had cited 700+ medical logistics flights over 54 days, with 40% tied to diagnostics.
The company said the Andhra Pradesh network will connect three cities and scale to 10,000 daily flights across retail, ecommerce, and healthcare.
The sources reviewed did not include independent details on the rollout timeline or contract structure.
The expansion comes as India still lacks a permanent beyond-visual-line-of-sight framework for drone delivery, according to a July 2026 report on a Directorate General of Civil Aviation notice against unauthorised operations.
