Indian chip startups get $43.9m boost in private investment
Indian semiconductor startups have secured 380 crore rupee (US$43.9 million) in private investment, supported by government initiatives and rising global demand for locally designed chips.
Key programs like the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme and the Chips to Startup (C2S) Programme by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) have driven this momentum.
The DLI scheme has supported 22 startups since 2022, with the government committing 234 crore rupee (US$27 million to projects worth 690 crore rupee (US$79.8 million).
Netrasemi raised 107 crore rupee (US$12.4 million) in venture capital, marking one of the largest investments in the sector this year.
Other notable firms include Mindgrove Technologies, which raised 85 crore rupee (US$9.8 million) for CCTV chip designs, and Fermionic Design, which secured 50 crore rupee (US$5.8 million) for satellite communication chips.
Some startups have developed and tested chip designs with global manufacturers, indicating potential commercial deployment.
