India-based StrainX Bioworks, a biotechnology startup in synthetic biology and precision fermentation, has raised $13 million in a round led by Prime Venture Partners and Leo Capital.
The startup spent the past two years building its biotechnology platform and manufacturing capabilities in stealth mode.
Good Startup, Sparrow Capital, Sun Icon Ventures, Dholakia Ventures, and WindT Angels also participated.
Founded by IIT Delhi alumni Akshay Mittal and Dr Alok Malaviya, StrainX said it had demonstrated fermentation at the 10,000-litre scale and was working towards 100,000-litre operations.
StrainX said it would use the funding to speed up research and development, expand its scientific team, and grow commercial partnerships.
The startup also said it planned to commercialize products for the global food, nutraceutical, and personal care markets.
