Indian astrology startup Astrotalk sets $1b ESOP buyback
Astrotalk, a Noida-based astrology platform, said on August 12 that it would buy back employee stock options from more than 100 employees at a US$1 billion valuation.
The company said the transaction would be funded from profits and would let eligible employees sell part of their holdings while keeping the rest.
The price marks a jump from the roughly US$300 million valuation tied to its 2024 fundraising from existing investors Left Lane Capital and Elev8 Venture Partners, and signals unicorn status.
Astrotalk said its revenue run rate exceeded 25 billion rupees (US$262 million) in annual recurring revenue. It said FY25 revenue was 11.8 billion rupees (US$123 million), and profit before tax was 2.9 billion rupees (US$30 million).
FY24 total income was 6.6 billion rupees (US$69.2 million), and adjusted profit before tax was 1.3 billion rupees (US$13.6 million).
The buyback comes amid a wider employee-liquidity trend in India, where 12 startups carried out employee stock ownership plan buybacks worth 14.1 billion rupees (US$148 million) in 2025, benefiting more than 9,200 employees.
