Indian AI startup Unikon.ai shifts to D2C due to high cash burn
Unikon.ai, co-founded by Aakash Anand in 2024, is shifting its business strategy due to high cash burn, with monthly expenses reaching 2 crore rupee (US$230,758).
Anand announced on LinkedIn that profitability may take considerable time to achieve.
The startup originally offered an AI-powered networking platform to connect users with industry experts and educators.
The company now plans to transition into a direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand. Anand is optimistic about this move, citing his past success in growing and making D2C businesses profitable.
In June 2024, Unikon.ai secured 16 crore rupee (US$2 million) in seed funding from investors like Zerodha’s Nikhil Kamath and Lenskart’s Peyush Bansal.
This pivot highlights the company’s focus on building a sustainable and profitable business model.
