India smartphone exports rise 39% to $1.53b: report
Smartphone exports from India rose 39% year-on-year in August 2025 to about US$1.53 billion, according to the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA).
ICEA said shipments to the US more than doubled, reaching US$965 million in August 2025, compared to US$388 million a year earlier.
The association cautioned against interpreting month-on-month changes without considering broader industry factors, noting that August and September are typically slower months due to new product launches and increased domestic demand during festivals.
ICEA reported that smartphone exports in the first five months of FY26 reached US$11.7 billion, up 55% from US$7.6 billion in the same period last year.
Canalys, a research firm, said India overtook China in smartphone exports to the US in Q2 2025, with Made in India devices accounting for 44% of US imports, up from 13% a year earlier, while China’s share dropped to 25% from 61%.
