India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned executives from Google and Meta to its New Delhi headquarters on July 21, government sources said.

The investigation focuses on allegations that the companies promoted online betting apps through ads, despite a government advisory against such promotions.

The ED will examine funds received by the platforms from these apps and whether they advertised other betting platforms.

In 2022, India’s information and broadcasting ministry issued an advisory warning against promoting betting and gambling, citing risks to consumers, especially youth and children.

Google and Meta have not responded to requests for comment.
