As climate extremes intensify in India due to global warming, the country is turning to AI to increase the accuracy of its weather forecasts at a lower cost.

The goal of this AI integration – which the government is testing through conferences and workshops – is to improve weather advisories for India’s 1.4 billion citizens.

So far, the India Meteorological Department has used AI to send out public alerts about heatwaves and diseases like malaria.
