Index Ventures raises $2b for startup bets
Index Ventures, a Geneva-based venture capital firm, said on July 31 that it raised US$2 billion to back startups at multiple stages.
The new capital includes a US$900 million venture fund, a US$400 million seed fund, and a US$700 million increase to its 2024 growth fund, bringing the firm’s total investing capital to US$3.5 billion.
The increase raises Index’s growth fund from US$1.5 billion to US$2.2 billion.
In 2024, the firm launched US$2.3 billion in new funds, after raising US$3.1 billion across funds in 2021.
Recent portfolio developments include cybersecurity firm Wiz’s announced US$32 billion sale to Alphabet’s Google, design software company Figma’s public listing, and fintech company Revolut’s secondary share sale at a US$115 billion valuation.
Index’s AI investments include Cohere, Mistral, and Anthropic. The firm first invested in Anthropic in 2025 and, in recent months, joined a US$1.1 billion initial round for Ineffable Intelligence.
The fundraising comes despite a broader liquidity crunch in venture capital.
Global venture capital fundraising fell to US$118.6 billion in 2025, the lowest level in a decade, even as AI accounted for more than half of worldwide deal value.
