ID already shares personal data with US via Google, Visa: minister
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, addressed concerns about personal data transfers to the United States.
He clarified that such transfers have been common due to Indonesian citizens using global digital services like Google, Visa, and Mastercard.
Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on July 24, 2025 Airlangga highlighted that the recent Indonesia-US trade agreement aims to create a legal framework for secure and regulated cross-border data flows.
He noted that data sharing occurs when Indonesians use digital platforms or make transactions with international payment systems.
