IBM unveils new quantum chips, targets 2029 fault tolerance
IBM announced new quantum processors and software updates at its Quantum Developer Conference on November 12 in New York.
The company introduced the Quantum Nighthawk processor with 120 qubits and higher connectivity, set to be available by the end of 2025, and the Quantum Loon processor, which demonstrates components needed for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
IBM also updated its Qiskit software for improved circuit accuracy and lower result extraction costs through better error mitigation.
It added experiments from IBM and partners to a public quantum advantage tracker and said advances in 300mm wafer fabrication have accelerated chip development.
The company targets verified quantum advantage by 2026 and fault-tolerant quantum computing by 2029.
