🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Hyundai export gains fit India’s auto shift while retail data confirms demand
- Hyundai’s 6.6% growth 1 looks modest. In November, passenger vehicle retail sales rose 20% year-on-year to 394,152 and dealer inventory fell to 44-46 days from 53-55 2.
- Compare Hyundai wholesale dispatches with retail registrations to size real demand, and use FADA data to separate dealer sales from customer purchases. Maruti posted 22% YoY growth in December and ended 2025 with 3 days of dealer stock 1.
- Exports rose 26.5% for Hyundai 1, which fits India’s push as a global production base shipping to more than 100 countries 3. Rivals grew in December with Mahindra 25%, Kia 105%, and Toyota 33% 1.
Auto logistics firms can profit from port gaps as exports rise
- Hyundai export growth of 26.5% 1 hints at rising outbound loads that test current capacity. India faces port congestion, limited roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessels, and customs delays while shipping to over 100 countries 3.
- Tech providers can sell AI yard tools and real-time vehicle tracking. Dighi Port plans a 200,000-unit-per-year RoRo terminal with SAMRX (a terminal plus yard management software platform) that aims for near-zero dwell time with OEM-integrated dashboards 4.
- Vendors can focus on the Mumbai-Pune auto belt and the National Highway 66 (NH-66) corridor. New RoRo sites need visibility for pre-delivery inspection, storage, and vessel loading 4. EV-ready gear matters as India builds an electric vehicle export base.
