Hyundai, Kia recall 39,280 EVs over battery software issue

Hyundai, Kia, are recalling a total of 39,280 electric vehicles due to potential fire risks, according to the South Korean transport ministry.

Hyundai will recall 37,690 units of four models, including the Kona Electric, for a battery management system (BMS) software issue that may hinder early fire detection.

Kia plans to recall 1,590 units of the Niro EV for the same BMS software problem.

The recalls are voluntary and aim to address manufacturing defects identified by the manufacturers.
