Hyundai Engineering said on September 28 that it had won an 870 billion won (US$644 million) contract to build a 60MW AI data center in Bieungdo-dong, Gunsan, North Jeolla Province.

Construction is scheduled to begin in October.

The company said it would handle architectural, civil, mechanical, landscaping, and communications work, including power and cooling systems.

KT Cloud, a South Korea-based cloud services provider, will manage the uninterruptible power supply, batteries, and automated controls.

Hyundai Engineering said the facility will use Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin AI semiconductors and Vertiv’s prefabricated modular and skid-based power and cooling systems, which are designed for the higher electricity use and heat output of AI servers.

The project is the first phase of SGC Group’s planned 300MW data center cluster in Gunsan.

Hyundai Engineering said it expected priority negotiation rights for a later 240MW project if it executes the first phase successfully.
