South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group said it would launch vehicles using its own driver-assistance software in late 2029, two years later than planned.

In the meantime, the automaker would introduce Nvidia-based Level 2+ and Level 2++ systems in 2028.

Executive Park Min-woo said Hyundai would co-design the technology with Nvidia and use data from those vehicles to train and refine its in-house Atria platform.

Park said the first Nvidia-based vehicles would use cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radar instead of lidar. Hyundai is considering lidar for Level 3 systems, which allow hands-off driving under specific conditions.

Level 2+ and Level 2++ are not formal Society of Automotive Engineers categories, but industry shorthand for enhanced Level 2 features that still require supervision.

Hyundai has not provided a timeline for commercializing Level 3 systems.
