Hybrid vehicle registrations in S Korea exceed 2m units
Hybrid vehicle registrations in South Korea exceeded 2 million for the first time last year, according to government data released on Feb. 25.
As of Dec. 31, 2024, there were 2,024,481 hybrid vehicles registered, with 482,349 units added during the year, as reported by the transport ministry.
Since their introduction in 2008, hybrid vehicle registrations grew steadily, topping 500,000 in 2019, 1 million in 2022, and 1.5 million in 2023.
The increase in hybrid vehicles has contributed to the overall growth of eco-friendly vehicles, which include electric and hydrogen fuel cell models.
By the end of 2024, the total number of eco-friendly vehicles in South Korea reached 2.75 million.
Eco-friendly vehicles now account for 10.4% of all registered cars in South Korea, highlighting a shift toward greener transportation.
