Huawei’s Maextro S800 leads China ultra-luxury EV sales

The Maextro S800, a luxury EV developed by Huawei and state-owned JAC Group, recorded 2,145 deliveries in China last month, topping sales for cars priced above 700,000 yuan (US$100,600), according to ECC Intelligence.

This figure surpasses the combined November sales of Porsche’s Panamera and BMW’s 7 Series in the country.

The Maextro S800 has led the high-end segment for three consecutive months since September.

The car, launched in May 2025, is available in both pure electric and extended-range versions.

China’s luxury car market was previously dominated by foreign brands making petrol-powered vehicles.

Huawei has focused on supplying vehicle technology since entering the automotive industry in 2019, partnering with carmakers to develop EVs.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

China’s premium segment lacks data to verify Maextro’s dominance

  • ECC Intelligence counted 2,145 November deliveries and pitched leadership above 700,000 yuan. Data lists 2.241 million September passenger cars with luxury at 240,000 and 10.8% share. No source breaks out the 700,000+ yuan tier 1.
  • The segment might sell 5,000 units a month or 50,000. We lack November results for the Mercedes S-Class and BMW i7. Data for the Porsche Taycan or Audi A8 is missing 1.
  • Discounting stayed in play in September with 23 passenger models cutting prices versus 36 a year earlier. Model-level pricing pressure is missing, so it is hard to tell if Maextro won on value or on new tech 1.

Third-party providers can reach HarmonyOS in-car users through Huawei partners

  • HarmonyOS runs on phones, cars, and smart devices. It lets one app span these endpoints as a single system. Developers reach Huawei partner brands with one build 2.
  • Navigation and streaming providers have access to Huawei’s tools to build native in-car apps. Payments and cloud firms do too. That includes DevEco Studio (its integrated development environment). It also covers ArkUI (its cross-device UI framework). This route avoids one-off work per carmaker and reaches premium EV buyers across Huawei partners 3.
  • HarmonyOS NEXT launched in October 2024 with native-only apps. International rollout is planned for 2026. Early entrants can secure placement before stores fill. Infrastructure firms such as Content Delivery Network (CDN) providers can ready cross-device delivery as usage grows beyond China 3.
