Huawei has announced new supernode computing cluster systems to bolster its AI computing power, aiming to compete with platforms from Nvidia and xAI.

The Shenzhen-based company introduced the Atlas 950 and Atlas 960 superpods, along with the Atlas 950 and 960 superclusters, at its Connect 2025 conference in Shanghai.

Huawei plans to launch the Atlas 950 superpod, equipped with 8,192 Ascend neural processing unit (NPU) cards, by Q4 2026, and the Atlas 960 superpod, with up to 15,488 Ascend 960 NPU cards, by the end of 2027.

The Atlas 950 supercluster, expected by the end of 2026, will feature over 500,000 Ascend NPUs, while the Atlas 960 supercluster will include more than 1 million.

Huawei said these systems are designed to address chip manufacturing limitations and enhance domestic AI development.
