Huawei, HP sign multi-year Wi-Fi patent deal

Huawei, the Shenzhen-based telecoms equipment and consumer electronics company, and HP signed a multi-year global patent cross-licensing agreement covering Wi-Fi patents, the companies said on Aug. 26.

The agreement gives HP the right to use certain Huawei Wi-Fi patents in its personal computers for a fee. It follows a 2025 lawsuit Huawei filed against HP over Wi-Fi 6 patents.

The dispute was resolved in November 2025 after HP became a licensee of Sisvel’s Wi-Fi 6 patent pool, which offers rights tied to Wi-Fi 6.

Sisvel, an Italian intellectual property management firm, also offers a broader Wi-Fi licensing program, suggesting the new bilateral agreement may go beyond the earlier patent-pool settlement.

Huawei has also pursued a Wi-Fi patent case against Netgear, which later joined the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 pool, showing the HP agreement is part of Huawei’s broader push to license its Wi-Fi patents.
