Huawei eyes building data center in Brazil

Huawei, the Chinese technology company, is interested in expanding into Brazil’s data center market.

The company is currently awaiting the passage of a government bill before finalizing its plans, according to Atilio Rulli, Huawei’s vice president of public relations for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Rulli said that the development of AI in Brazil would benefit from government incentives.

He urged for the implementation of such measures within the next two to three years.

Details regarding Huawei’s potential investment and the specifics of the government bill have not been disclosed.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Brazil positions itself as Latin America’s data center powerhouse with government incentives

Brazil’s strategic move to attract data center investments comes as the country already dominates the regional market, holding over 41% of Latin America’s data center investments 1.

The Brazilian data center market is experiencing substantial growth, valued at $3.40 billion in 2024 and projected to reach $5.96 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 9.81% 2.

This growth is supported by government policies specifically designed to attract technology investments through tax breaks and incentives, with projections suggesting these policies could unlock around US$356 billion in investments over the next decade 3.

Brazil’s existing data center capacity of 700 MW is expected to double with an additional 1,800 MW by 2029, indicating substantial infrastructure expansion 1.

For companies like Huawei, these incentives address a critical business need as AI advancement requires significant computing infrastructure and government support, which Brazil is now offering.

2️⃣ Huawei brings proven efficiency in data center construction and operations

Huawei has demonstrated exceptional capabilities in rapid data center deployment, exemplified by completing a data center in Jakarta in just 37 days, significantly faster than the industry average of over three months 4.

The company’s technical expertise is evident in its Guian New Area data center in China, which achieves a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.12, substantially better than the global industry average of 1.58 56.
