Huawei debuts thin phone to rival Apple’s iPhone Air

Huawei has introduced the Mate 70 Air, a 6.6mm-thick smartphone priced at 4,199 yuan (US$590), in direct competition with Apple’s iPhone Air.

The Mate 70 Air is available for pre-order in China, with deliveries set to begin on November 11, and features a 7-inch display, stereo speakers, and a 6,500mAh battery.

The device runs on Huawei’s proprietary operating system and is aimed at design-focused consumers.

Apple’s iPhone Air, launched alongside the iPhone 17 series, is thinner but costs US$999.

In 2025, Xiaomi has adopted similar branding and accelerated its product launches to compete with Apple, which has seen stronger sales of its latest iPhones in China year-on-year.
