HSBC backs Germany fintech firm re:cap’s UK entry with $169.2m

Berlin-based fintech firm re:cap has entered the UK market with a new €125 million (US$169.2 million) credit facility.

The funding, provided by HSBC Innovation Banking and Avellinia Capital, will support re:cap’s Capital Operating System (Capital OS).

The platform offers real-time capital planning and flexible funding for technology companies.

The UK expansion taps into a robust tech ecosystem filled with startups and growth-stage firms.

Capital OS helps businesses access non-dilutive capital and offers financial planning tools to optimize funding use.

Since launching in 2021, re:cap has deployed over €100 million (US$135.4 million) in Germany and the Netherlands, with zero defaults reported.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Shift toward capital efficiency reflects broader tech funding evolution

re:cap’s UK expansion comes at a pivotal moment when tech funding dynamics are dramatically changing across the industry.

Investors in 2025 are significantly more cautious than in previous years, placing greater emphasis on financial discipline and clear paths to profitability rather than growth at all costs 1.

This shift explains the growing demand for solutions like re:cap’s Capital OS, as founders now face mounting pressure to demonstrate monthly recurring revenue and sustainable unit economics when seeking funding 2.

The timing is particularly strategic as alternative financing options like debt financing and minority equity deals are becoming increasingly common in the tech sector, reflecting a market-wide pivot toward capital efficiency 1.

For context, while the global fintech market continues expanding, projected to exceed $1 trillion by 2032, the competition for funding has intensified, making tools that optimize capital deployment especially valuable 3.

2️⃣ Berlin-to-UK expansion follows established fintech migration patterns

re:cap’s move from Berlin to the UK represents a classic growth trajectory for successful European fintech companies seeking scale.
