Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan said on June 7 that the city is expanding AI (AI) infrastructure, subsidies, and training to support industry adoption and competitiveness.

Chan said the Sandy Ridge Data Facility Cluster, a 10-hectare site in the Northern Metropolis for data centers and related industries, is under construction after the government awarded the project in March 2026.

The project went to Range Intelligent Computing Technology. The company said it would begin operations within 42 months.

He said the cluster is expected to provide 180,000 petaflops by 2032, or 36x Hong Kong’s current computing capacity of about 5,000 petaflops.

Chan also said an AI subsidy scheme has approved more than 30 projects.

The program has a HK$3 billion (US$383 million) budget over three years and generally covers up to 70% of Cyberport AI Supercomputing Centre service costs for eligible institutions, research and development centers, government departments, and companies.

He added that the government has allocated HK$50 million (US$6.38 million) for more than 200 AI training events over the next two fiscal years.

It will also allocate HK$300 million (US$38.3 million) this year to strengthen a pilot program that helps small and medium-sized enterprises adopt AI and cybersecurity tools.
