Hong Kong stocks climb as Alibaba, tech giants boost market
Hong Kong stocks rose on October 2, with the Hang Seng Index climbing 1.5% to 27,246.96 by 11am local time after a one-day break.
Gains were led by tech companies, including Alibaba, which rose 3.7% to HK$183.50 (US$235,85) after JPMorgan increased its price target for Alibaba’s US shares.
Short-video platform Kuaishou jumped 5.9%, Baidu was up 3.5%, Tencent gained 2%, Meituan added 2.2%, and Xiaomi rose 2.1% after reporting over 40,000 vehicle deliveries in September.
Mainland Chinese stock exchanges remained closed for holidays.
Some companies saw declines, with Trip.com down 2.9%, Pop Mart falling 3.7%, Li Auto dropping 1%, and Anta Sports slipping 0.9%.
