Hong Kong groups urge shift EV subsidies to commercial fleets

Hong Kong environmental groups urged the government to shift support from private to commercial electric vehicles after Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po ended first registration tax concessions for private EVs in his budget.

The Environment and Ecology Bureau said the government waived more than HK$30 billion (US$3.83 billion) in first registration tax concessions over the past decade, including the one-for-one replacement scheme.

Environmental groups called for shifting subsidies to commercial fleets, expanding charging infrastructure and green corridors, and introducing limited mileage-based charges.
