Hong Kong firm Suanova launches token-based AI cloud service

Yeebo (International Holdings), a Hong Kong electronics components maker, said on May 11 that its unit Suanova launched cube-router.com.

The company partnered with telecom firm HKBN to operate what the companies described as the city’s first token-based NeoCloud platform for AI computing.

Suanova said the service runs on its Harvest No. 4 cluster and uses GPU systems from MetaX and Biren Technology to pool computing capacity, schedule workloads, meter usage, and provide security tools.

The company said it already runs Harvest computing centers in Hong Kong and Shanghai and serves academic and enterprise clients including SenseTime.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Token-based platforms open a new market for scarce AI computing power

  • Suanova’s platform fits a wider shift where AI infrastructure operators sell raw Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) capacity through tokens. Rafay Systems, a cloud infrastructure software company, likened those plans to mobile pre- and post-paid minutes 1.
  • The approach sits at the center of “neoclouds,” cloud providers built for AI workloads 2.
  • Those firms are chasing a market that could reach nearly US$400 billion by 2031, as AI demand for computing power grows faster than supply from traditional cloud providers 2.
  • Usage-based tokens tie consumption straight to revenue. “Tokens equal money,” said analysts at theCUBE Research, a technology industry research firm 3.

Regional AI clouds put pressure on global hyperscalers

  • Services like Suanova’s let local AI cloud operators earn from AI model use instead of relying only on GPU supply or hourly rates 1.
  • The model also fits rising interest in sovereign AI, which keeps AI data and systems within national or regional borders. By 2028, 60% of multinational firms will split their AI stacks across sovereign zones, projected International Data Corporation (IDC), a market research firm 1.
  • That shift could help local providers keep token spending that has long gone to global hyperscalers, the largest cloud companies, and big foundation model companies 1.
  • Neoclouds have emerged as a design response to AI workloads, which place different demands on systems than traditional cloud services 2.
