HKU biomedical school partners with Votee on applied AI
The School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Hong Kong’s Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine has signed a memorandum of understanding with Votee AI, a Hong Kong- and Toronto-headquartered enterprise AI company.
The agreement covers internships, capstone projects, joint research and development in applied AI, and joint applications for R&D funding.
Votee said its Votee MAGIC platform supports on-premise enterprise large language model training.
The partnership builds on existing AI-related work at HKU’s biomedical school. Faculty research includes bioinformatics, digital health, and medical AI, while a related master’s program combines biotechnology, AI, digital health, entrepreneurship, and innovation management.
Votee’s Cantonese large language model, which the company said is among the technologies involved in the partnership, is described as an open-source local Cantonese model.
The agreement also fits a broader Hong Kong trend of AI-focused university partnerships covering internships and joint applied research.
